Designing a Versatile and Innovative Outdoor Office

With the rise of remote work and the support of the Dutch government for flexwork and working from home, WorkAway offers a practical and convenient solution for professionals who want to work outside their traditional office environment. The cube-shaped office can be easily rotated to avoid direct sunlight or wind, ensuring optimal comfort for the user. Its dimensions of 1200 mm deep, 2000 mm high, and 1700 mm wide make it suitable for various locations, including business parks, car parks, campuses, and public transport nodes.

One of the key strengths of WorkAway is its focus on user experience. The cube is made of sustainable foam with a weather-resistant coating, providing a comfortable and warm seating and desk area. The acoustic quality inside the cube ensures that conversations stay private, minimizing disturbances for both the users and outsiders. Additionally, the exterior of the cube offers ample space for advertising or promotional purposes, making it a versatile and eye-catching addition to any public space.

The realization of WorkAway involved a meticulous design process. A first prototype was created using plywood, and the series production was realized using sustainable foam with a weather-resistant coating. The project took approximately two years to complete and was designed in the Netherlands.

Recognized for its ingenuity and contribution to quality of life improvements, WorkAway Outdoor Office was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2016.
